Finishing Touch Decorating, a locally owned and operated family business was founded in 1987. Our 20,000 square foot showroom, store and workroom is housed in a century old, restored historic building in Sydney’s downtown district.
Finishing Touch began as a home-based business by Marjorie and Louis Fougere, and since it’s inception has continually grown and expanded due to their tireless efforts. Marjorie Fougere is well-known throughout the North American décor industry as a renowned speaker and teacher, certifying decorators all across Canada and the continental United States. Marjorie and Louis have both served on the National Board of the Paint and Decorating Retail Association. Marjorie has also served terms as both the Vice-President and President of this Association. Marjorie was honored by the Atlantic Progress Magazine’s, Halifax Progress Club, as their Female Entrepreneur of the Year in 1998. In 2001, Marjorie was honored with the award for Entrepreneur of the Year from the Cape Breton Industrial Board of Trade.
Finishing Touch Decorating has enjoyed numerous awards and accolades. In 1999, Finishing Touch received a prestigious award from Profit 100 magazine as being recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in all of Canada. Also, in 1999 the Cape Breton Industrial Board of Trade recognized the company with an award for Excellence in Business. Along with these awards Finishing Touch and the Fougere’s have been featured in numerous magazines, including several articles in the nationally published Paint and Decorating Retailer Magazine, Reader’s Digest and Canadian Living magazines.
